The incumbent is responsible for the supervision and day-to-day management, direction and coordination of the exclusion casework activities in Headquarters and providing direction and guidance in this area nationwide. As a Director of the Exclusions Staff, the incumbent oversees a staff responsible for developing, directing and carrying out a comprehensive program of administrative actions involving medical personnel, health care entities  and agencies, contractors, grantees, beneficiaries and others in connection with Department programs. The incumbent, in consultation with the Office of Counsel to the Inspector General (OCIG), renders opinions and guidance as to the legal sufficiency to the broad scope of exclusions actions based upon applicable statutes, regulations, and court decisions. The incumbent develops and maintains effective working relationships with key CMS staff, key department staff,
Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Congress, Medicare contractor and staff members, State contractors, State agencies and other Federal agencies involved in law enforcement and health programs to promote the goals and objectives of the OIG and, specifically, the goals of the exclusion process.
